Hrithik Roshan turns coat on Hanuman? Tuesday, December 18
Hrithik Roshan who's playing the Muslim king Akbar as a hero in his upcoming Jodha Akbar was scheduled to do the dubbing for the Indian animation of The Return of Hanuman, the sequel to the surprise 2005 animation hit Hanuman, based on the story of Bajrang Bali.
However to the makers' disappointment, while Roshan had initially scheduled to do the voiceover, he did not make time for Hanuman and took off for Singapore instead before the dubbing was to be done. The makers will now have to release the film on their own.
Insiders point out that not only might it have been advantageous for the film but for Roshan also to promote Hanuman since the section of audience and kids who watch this kind of film in theater and on television had played a big role in making films like Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish big hits. "Turning on Hanuman doesn't bode well for him down the line," says a source backing Hanuman.
Hindu mythology in general has been in a way crucial for Hrithik Roshan's stardom and recovery after his career hit doldrums post the excitement of Kaho Na Pyar Hai in 2000 with Fiza and Mission Kashmir, following which the Indian audience started to turn on the actor and gradually tuned him out. His comeback film after nearly 3 years was 2003's Koi Mil Gaya, an interwoven mix of sci-fci with Hindu mythology where a 'Krishn' like figure in the avatar of a spaceform responds to chants of 'Om' to bail Roshan out.
